What is the ground like in Morgan County?

Ozark karst of the cherty dolomite kind. Roughly all of Morgan County’s surface bedrock is Early Ordovician dolomite and sandstone, which weathers to thin, chert-laden soils over rock that water moves through along fractures rather than evenly through soil. That is the profile where depth to bedrock, not percolation rate, usually decides what can be built, and it is why the county insists on soil morphology rather than a perc test.
